Lamborn Family Vineyards 2004 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.

Only 460 cases produced. Final inventories available here.

About the Vineyard

Lamborn Family Vineyards is located at 2,200 feet above sea level, high atop Howell Mountain, Napa Valley. The mountain's volcanic soil combined with its split canopy trellising (more sunlight) provides the small-lot 4 acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard with ideal growing conditions. This environment produces Cabernets of the highest quality and intensity; all handcrafted by Heidi Barrett (dubbed the first lady of wine by Robert Parker).

Summary of Tasting Event

This wine was tasted on October 18th, 2007 by 8 people in a blind tasting format and paired with grilled Buffalo Steak.

The nose is initially a bit closed but opens to reveal a very pure caramel in the background. In the mouth it is quite rich with medium, supple tannins, good balancing acidity and a very long finish.

In general, we found the 2004 to be a tightly knit wine (young wines that have good acidity levels, good tannin levels, and are well made) that will age extremely well. It will drink well over the next few years and should also show well 10 to 15 years from now. It was the perfect accompaniment to grilled buffalo steak.
